BIO

Matthew Templer is a Chicano pianist originally from San Antonio, Texas, now living, teaching, and performing in Boston and the Greater Boston area. He began studying piano at the age of four at Ramar Music Institute under Marsha Perkins and later earned both his BMA and MMA in Piano Performance from Baylor University, where he studied under Dr. Bradley Bolen. With a background in solo and ensemble performance both locally and internationally, vocal coaching, accompaniment, new music, and music research; Matthew brings a versatile and thoughtful approach to his artistry and teaching.
Throughout his journey as a pianist, Matthew has sought to deepen the connection between music and the
world around us. He views artistic expression as a powerful force that allows us to convey emotion, tell stories, and foster meaningful connection. His love for community inspires his work in socially conscious musical projects, interdisciplinary collaborations, and advocacy through performance. Equally passionate about teaching, he works with students of all ages and skill levels, using the Faber and Alfred piano series for young beginners. Whether its helping someone achieve a lifelong goal, enriching a child’s life through music, or finding the love for piano in a beginner, Matthew is committed to empowering individuals to express themselves and connect more deeply with others through the art of music.

After months of using a piano app, I learned more from just a few lessons with Matthew than I ever did on my own. The apps simply can't compare to the knowledge, guidance, and skill of an expert pianist!
